Avi Wisnia Band
Bossa Nova / Folk / Acoustic
Avi and his band is also playing here,
Thursdays, 8:00-9:15PM, on:
2/7, 3/6. 4/3
“Think acoustic Americana with Brazilian bossa nova. Drink a
caipirinha, and enjoy the sounds that originated in warmer
climates.” – The L Magazine
Singer/songwriter AVI WISNIA combines the classic sounds of
the Brazilian Bossa Nova with pangs of soul, folk, jazz and
pop to create a unique sound that is at once engagingly
familiar and refreshingly new. With a versatile repertoire
of well-crafted original songs, Avi Wisnia and his talented
ensemble take the Brazilian influences and make them explode
in a million different directions. A wordsmith as well,
Wisnia’s clever lyrics pay a knowing nod to his
contemporaries and offer a fresh perspective on issues
facing his generation. In
conjunction with his original tunes, Wisnia reinvents
classics from artists like Lauryn Hill, Radiohead, The Cure
and Tom Jobim - stripping them down, taking them apart and
reviving them with a new bossa spirit. |

Katie Arnold
Acoustic / Pop / Folk
Hailing from the outskirts of D.C., singer/songwriter
Katie Arnold has been writing music for the last 20
years. She started out on piano as a child, picked up
a guitar in college, and didn't discover the unleashed
power of her voice until her early twenties. With
influences ranging from Emmylou Harris to The
Cranberries, this up and coming artist is carving out
a niche for herself in the indie-acoustic music scene
of New York City. Katie’s passion-filled songs have a
fearless, yet graceful way of forcing people to stop
and recognize that a life untested is a life unlived.
“Her skilled vocals and song writing ability mark
Katie Arnold as a gifted talent.” -- Dave Kellogg,
syndicated radio personality
Jodie Manross
Folk Rock / Acoustic / Blues
“Her crisp voice and
illuminative songcraft belie her diminutive stature…equal
parts wistful and urgent, it’s atmospheric music that will
touch your heart and mind.”
-Los Angeles' Entertainment Weekly
“It’s no wonder why people rave about her power to breathe
life into a song.”
- Boone, NC’s The Mountain Times
“Jodie’s voice is strong, rarefied and, to risk hyperbole,
maybe even angelic.”
– Knoxville, TN’s Metropulse
“Manross’ rafter-rattling vocals can shatter even the
hardest heart.
–Charlotte, NC’s Creative Loafing
With her acoustic-based, blues-influenced folk rock, Jodie
Manross has become one of Tennessee’s --and now New YorkCity--top
singer-songwriters. Known as “the little woman with the big
voice,” Jodie possesses a powerful voice much larger than
her size and surprises audiences with her soulful delivery
of songs.

JAMIE
LEONHART
Jamie's lithe and lyrical, three-and-a-half octave voice
wraps around universe in which Kurt Weill and Laura Nyro
meet Alice in Wonderland in a dimly-lit jazz club. Born in
New York City, the granddaughter of a cantor, and the
youngest of three musically-curious children, Jamie began
studying the violin at the age of three and singing soon
after. Her inspiration to find her own voice began in her
early teen years while singing in a vocal jazz ensemble, and
at home foraging through her brother's expansive eclectic
record collection. After graduating with a degree in English
Literature from Barnard College, Jamie continued her musical
journey: through leading a 'pop' band, to singing as a
soloist in the New York Metro Mass Gospel Choir to
performing as a solo artist at prominent New York venues and
drawing comparisons to the likes of Norah Jones, Feist,
Madeleine Peyroux and even Sarah Vaughan, Leonhart continues
to develop as an artist who refuses to be categorized. With
The Truth About Suffering (Sunnyside Records) she releases
her most comprehensive and personal work to date.
DEIDRE RODMAN
An Idaho native, pianist/composer/singer Deidre Rodman
moved to New York in 1997 to play for The Big Apple
Circus after receiving a master's degree in Jazz Studies
from the University of North Texas. She spent her free
time going out to hear all the music she could. Soon she
was playing and collaborating with many great musicians:
reedist Roy Nathanson from The Jazz Passengers, bassist
Steve Swallow, and vocalists Natalie Merchant, Nancy
King, Darius De Haas, Debbie Harry, and Mike Viola (of
Candy Butchers fame). She has released 3 CDs as a
bandleader on the Sunnyside label and is currently
working on her own pop CD. Another current project close
to her heart is The Lascivious Biddies, an all female
cocktail pop quartet which features 4-part harmonies.
Jamie and Deidre have been collaborating on some new
material, as well as exploring older material through
fresh eyes and ears. This show will be an exciting
celebration of this union (and an impromptu celebration
of Deidre's birthday!)

Kagero
Japanese Gypsy Rock Band
"Echoes of bossanova, Radiohead, Elvis Costello, everything
sounds like this band should be performing in a Paris café
to a room full of expatriates. -Ben
Kreiger, Jezebel Music
Kagero's gypsy-flavored acoustic rock is knocking New York's
indie scene on its tushy. The sound has been described as a
melting pot of tonalities and rhythms from Asia, the Middle
East and Eastern Europe. Kagero pulls their core rock sound
from David Bowie and Neil Young, and adds the gypsy flavor
of the violin found in the works of Stephane Grappelli. With
a high-energy show that entices even the most jaded hipster
into busting a gleefully bohemian move, Kagero's world music
goulash is very tasty – even if you don't always know what's
you're eating. Just call them your local neighborhood urban-gypsophonic,
border-jumping, international debtor's prison groove-loving
feelgood band next door |
